HUM-GT 2015
The IT enabled modern geospatial technology has immense potential to revolutionise the traditional methods of management of spatial information like revenue/cadastral maps and public utilities, and catapulting the state on higher pedestal of development. It even holds the premise of future modelling. Innumerable developments are happening at national and international level to institutionalise geospatial technology in day-to-day governance and utility management. However, this is yet to gain momentum in state-level governance; the isolated work done in departmental silos is bereft of integration synergy. The government has to take innumerable decisions to put the scarce land resource to different competing land-uses and to provide various space related services. These decisions can be more informed, judicious and quick when supported by efficient spatial analysis, i.e. location of the proposed land-use/ public utility and its relation with other objects.
Several government departments in Haryana like Agriculture, Forest, Health, Mining, Revenue, Rural Development, Urban Planning etc. are implementing several projects wherein GIS tasks have either been outsourced to vendors or carried out by in-house GIS capacities. However, much less GIS outputs are available on the internet for public consumption. This scenario necessitates a brain-storming review of the status of institutionalisation of geospatial technology in Haryana by all stake holders in development the State. Therefore it has been planned to hold a State specific conference titled 'Indigenising Geospatial Technology'.
This conference envisages providing opportunities to the user departments in Haryana to share their successful GIS projects for the benefit of all other departments; also to discuss the shortcomings in deliverable, if any, and suggestions to address the same in future GIS assignments.
